High School Basketball Fans Disciplined For Racist “USA USA USA” Victory Chant BUT Opposition’s “Alamo Whites” Overlooked [Update 2: Racist "Alamo Whites" Finally Reported Sort Of... ]
Even crazier, Hispanic students are among those punished.
I guarantee that if the predominantly Hispanic high school basketball team would have won the game, and their fans had chanted ‘Viva Mexico’, school officials would have remained silent, and the media would have ignored it.
“Racial incident mars high school game”
(KSAT) –SAN ANTONIO -A local school district is apologizing after an apparent incident of racism at a boys high school basketball game this past weekend.
When the final whistle blew Saturday, Alamo Heights celebrated a convincing victory over San Antonio Edison.
“USA, USA, USA,” they chanted.
San Antonio Independent School District officials took the chant as a racial insult to a school with all minority players from a school with mostly white ones.
Alamo Heights Superintendent Dr. Kevin Brown also apologized for the chant.
“We just hope that people know that that’s not who we are and we’re not going to let it happen again,” Brown said.
Alamo Heights Superintendent Dr. Kevin Brown wants to make it clear that showing pride in the USA is something that one should apologize for. Not in my book.
Alamo Heights has apologized to SAISD and the students identified will also have to apologize and have been banned from the state title games.
Seriously? Banned from title games because kids receiving an education IN THE USA are offended by USA???
The offensive pot calling the kettle black:
Comments on KSAT’s Facebook page by former Alamo Heights student James Russell:
Alamo Heights Basketball Game
I understand that the time of chanting “USA USA USA” was some what bad timing, but it wasn’t towards Edison and the hispanic race. We have chanted that at multiple games against all sorts of different races. We did not mean to be racist, if we were we could have said other things. I also don’t appreciate KSAT and other news stations for only showing half the story. Before you start calling Alamo Heights racist and other crude and hurtful names look at what Edison chanted during the game. Yes i am implying for you to rewind your film an watch it and listen to the whole game. I am a former student at Alamo Heights and this has taken all the attention away from are basketball team who is going to STATE. So more attention on them going to state please, i also believe that this would have never been on the news if Edison would have won.
ALAMO HEIGHTS “LOB CITY” WHATS GOOD ON TO STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously because Edison was taking it the wrong way,
its obvious USA offended Edison, they failed to mention how they were rude shouting out during the playing of our countries national anthem.
!) we were called Alamo whites. [A racist twist on ''Alamo Heights' -VH]
2) made fun of Eddie a disabled kid and shouted rude things at him
3) had a sign that said alamo heights suck my….. ya inappropriate
Some of the people that are commenting on this subject don’t attend Alamo heights or even live here an they are saying nothing is wrong and it all goes down to how you look at it I would love to go pull out some old film after almost every game where we chant USA USA
Or go spurs go
It’s not to offend people it’s to be proud of what we are living for.
Patriotism is offensive to the discriminatory, racist, potty mouth, anti-American students of Edison High and their progressive enablers within the school district. But since the offended happen to be Hispanic it is racist.
And here is a comment left on KSAT’s Facebook page from a student currently attending Alamo Heights, backing up the above claims.
Sage Devereaux-aroo Novosad-Talley
I sent this to your reporter who reported about Alamo Heights being “racist”
I am a current student at Alamo Heights, and I would like to discuss the story on how Alamo Heights chanting “USA” is racist. If you haven’t already checked your video comments on the KSAT12 page, most comments, if not mainly, said that this is not racist at all. Yes, our school consists of mainly of whites, but… that does not make us racist. What is wrong with being proud of our country? We have shouted it out at other games against WHITE teams and at pep rallies, and it is in not being racist towards anyone. I am white and my best friend happens to be a Hispanic. We are all Americans are we not? We should not be calling the whole community of Alamo Heights racist, when it was only three students starting the chant, and one of them being Hispanic. You also forgot to explain in your news story that Edison chanted Alamo Whites. It seems odd that you only told half of the story of what actually happened. Edison also made a rude remark about one of our paralyzed students, Eddie Moreno, calling him “retarded.” We are not the only ones guilty in the matter of racism. I think you need to air another story showing the other half of the story. It would be much appreciated by the Alamo Heights community and school system.
Edit: Paralyzed student Eddie Moreno is a former basketball player for Alamo Heights. He was “shot in the face in a road rage incident, paralyzing him from the neck down.”
BTW Demographically speaking, ‘Hispanic’ students enrolled in the SAISD are the ‘majority’ while whites are the ‘minorities’ by a WIDE margin.
Update: Further confirmation on Hispanic students participating in the “racist” chant. According to this San Antonio Express article some of the students who were chanting “USA USA” were Hispanic.
Alamo Heights ISD Superintendent Kevin Brown said he has apologized to SAISD officials. Heights students who were involved in the chanting will not be allowed to attend the Mules’ Class 4A state semifinal game against Dallas Kimball on Thursday.
Brown said some of the Heights students who took part and were disciplined are Hispanic.
“Unfortunately, after the game, we had a handful of students who made a bad decision and we’re very sorry it happened,†Brown said. “They made a mistake and we’re going to use this as a learning experience.â€
Yes kids, please learn from your mistake. It was a bad decision to ever think that you should be allowed to display patriotism in an American high school.
Edit: Also from the San Antonio Express: Edison players were already in the locker room so they did not even hear the chant, which lasted ONLY around 5 seconds.
The chant lasted for about five seconds. Alamo Heights head coach Andrew Brewer silenced the students as soon as he heard them.
Edison coach Art Vela said his players were already in the locker room and did not hear the chant, which took place about three minutes after the game ended.
Update 2: KSAT finally gets around to reporting on Edison fans/students calling Alamo Heights students “Alamo Whites”.
Now, numerous reports have surfaced that Edison fans were referring to Alamo Heights as “Alamo Whites.”
Those people say that is racist as well.
The controversy also has people asking questions about why saying “USA” could be considered racist.
Ashley Mergele is an Alamo Heights junior who was at the game.
“People call us ‘Alamo Whites’ all the time, but I think in this situation it made a bigger deal,” Mergele said.
But nowhere in the articles title or the article itself does KSAT journo Brian Mylar personally state that “Alamo Whites” is racist as he did with the “USA USA” chant article. He only notes that some people say it “is racist as well”.
“Racial incident mars high school game”
“Racism complaint generates nationwide controversy” [Re: USA USA chant NOT "Alamo Whites"--VH]
Mylar quotes from first article:
“An apparent incident of racism”
“Both districts are now just trying to move past this disturbing incident.”
Only Mylar quote mentioning racism of “Alamo Whites” in the second article:
“Those people say that is racist as well.”
Conclusion: KSAT’s Brian Mylar is a race baiting, illegal alien pandering journalist.
Edison High School’s team name is the “Golden Bears”. Since they think it is okay to call Alamo Heights students “Alamo Whites” would they be okay with being called the “Brown Bears”?
I think not. Tolerance and racial sensitivity is a one way street.
If chant of “USA, USA, USA” offends you –LEAVE.
