What a crazy coincidence! Or is it…?

(USA Today) –A volunteer paramedic who was among the first on the scene of a fire and massive explosion last month at a West, Texas fertilizer plant was arrested early Friday and charged with possession of a destructive device after telling authorities a pipe bomb and other items related to destructive devices found at another residence were his.

Officials have not said whether the arrest of Bryce Reed is related to the April 17 explosion at the West Fertilizer Co. that killed 14 people, injured around 200 and destroyed hundreds of homes in the vicinity.

The arrest came as Texas law enforcement officials said they had launched a criminal investigation into the massive fertilizer plant explosion.

Reed, 31, made an initial appearance in federal court Friday, but did not enter a plea. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Frazier said he would not release further details until court documents were unsealed sometime later in the day.

An affidavit signed by Douglas Kunze, a special agent for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, said a pipe bomb, chemicals and other items had been located in an Abbott, Texas home believed to be a co-worker of Reed’s.

“It was determined that the resident had unwittingly taken possession of the components from Reed on April 26,” Kunze said in the affidavit. Reed admitted to other investigators to possessing components of the pipe bomb, according to Kunze.

Until now, Investigators have largely treated the explosion as an industrial accident, but the Texas Department of Public Safety said in statement that the agency has now instructed the Texas Rangers and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department to conduct a criminal probe.

Bryce Reed, a volunteer emergency medical technician, appeared in U.S. District Court in Waco, Texas, on Friday, where he faced one count of unlawfully possessing an unregistered destructive device, prosecutors said. He did not enter a plea, said Daryl Fields, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Texas.

Reed was arrested on Thursday. Federal prosecutors said they responded to a home in Abbott, Texas, where they found a section of pipe 3-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 inches in diameter, end caps, fuses and explosive powder. The resident of that home, whom they did not identify, told police the components came from Reed.

According to sources, Reed asked an acquaintance to store a box for him sometime after the April 19 explosive at the West Fertilizer Company. That person reportedly found what appeared to be a pipe bomb in the box. Authorities were then contacted which led to the investigation.

“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’ ” he said. (Mail Online) A museum dedicated to Holocaust victim Anne Frank is expected to move almost next door to the proposed controversial mosque at Ground Zero, it was revealed today.

The Anne Frank Center is reported to be about to sign a lease in the 20-floor glass and steel tower at 100 Church St.

The building’s windows overlook Park 51, the planned 16-storey Muslim community centre and mosque at 45 park Place, just two blocks from Ground Zero.

The non-profit making Anne Frank Center, which is partnered with the museum in Amsterdam, is currently housed in a loft in SoHo’s Crosby Street.

But the museum needs more room and last year advertised for larger premises so it could recreate the secret room where the Jewish teen wrote her famous diary. >>>

Can anyone explain this? On a side note, it is interesting a Kossack goes by the nick of ‘Imam Rin Tin Tin’ (which I find to be hilarious) considering the whole muslims are supposedly allergic to dogs deal. And the progressive aversion to anything they might consider to be anti-Islam, such good little dhimmis as they are.

This is what the Wisconsin union malcontent democracy looks like, mob rule.

MADISON, Wis. — Thousands of people poured into the state Capitol following a surprise vote by state Senate Republicans to pass elements of a bill taking away most collective bargaining rights from public workers.

Police gave up guarding one of the main entrances to the Capitol on Wednesday night, allowing people to come in unabated.

Protesters began pouring into the building shortly before its 6 p.m. closing time to witness the Senate hastily pass parts of Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill.

Capitol security repeatedly asked protesters to get off of second floor walkways because they were concerned over their structural security.

Department of Administration spokesman Tim Donovan said the goal of police is to ensure people’s safety.

Donovan said that anyone inside the Capitol building Wednesday night was in violation of a court order to leave the building when it is closed. He said that no official business was going on after the Senate’s vote.

The Senate’s vote sparked the latest protests, as protesters climbed through windows and streamed into the Capitol just after 8 p.m., joining hundreds already inside the Capitol, a crowd that did not leave when the Capitol closed. >>>

To be fair it did seem the Capitol police made an attempt to hold off the angry mob. Now whether or not they were just going through the motions to appear to have been doing their job is the question. Shrug.
